Tea prices continue to witness a declining trend at Kochi auctions following subdued demand from blenders.
CTC dust market was lower by Rs 2 to Rs 3 and sometimes more following quality in sale no 44. However, the decline in prices was less for medium and plainer blacker teas. The quantity on offer was 12,70,938.60 kg. Kerala Loose Tea traders and upcountry buyers increased their off-take compared to last week and an improved enquiry noticed from exporters. The average price realised was Rs 121.55 compared to Rs 122.34 quoted last week, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.
The market barely remained steady for orthodox dust and the quantity on offer was 11,500 kg. Exporters continued to be the main supporter.
In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched Rs 125-174, mediums quoted Rs 98-130 and plain grades stood at Rs 90-99.
In leaf category, the market for select best Nilgiris brokens, whole leaf and Fannings in orthodox grades were firm to dearer. Others were irregular and lower and witnessed some withdrawal. The quantity on offer was 2,47,500 kg.
In CTC leaf, the market for good liquoring brokens and Fannings sold at steady levels with few withdrawals. Others sold were irregular and lower by Rs 1 to 2. The quantity on offer was 43,000 kg.
Monica SFD quoted the best prices of Rs 175 in dust grades, while Chamraj OP came to the top in leaf varieties quoting Rs 250.
