Tea prices at the auction centres of India rose 7.92 per cent in calendar 2016 over 2015, reveals our analysis of the latest data available with Tea Board. Prices rose to ₹134.34 a kg in 2016 from ₹124.48 in 2015, marking an increase of 9.86 or 7.92 per cent. In North Indian auctions, prices rose to an average of ₹143.97 from ₹139.79 a kg, marking a growth of ₹4.18 a kg or 2.99 per cent.
South Indian production fell by five per cent and to that extent, the availability at the auction centres as also the volume sold were lesser than in 2015. This pushed up the average prices to ₹103.72 from ₹81.40, marking a gain of ₹22.32 or a whopping 27.42 per cent.
