Last week’s long holidays coupled with a subdued demand from local buyers has impacted tea prices at the Kochi auctions this week.
The CTC market was lower by ₹1-3 and sometimes more following quality. However, the decline in the price was less for medium and plainer varieties.
There was some improvement in arrivals as the quantity on offer in CTC dust in sale no 17 was 9,02,910.15 kg. Of this, 13 per cent remained unsold.
No change in realisations
Blenders lent useful support for good liquoring varieties. There was no change in the realisation of average prices, which stood at ₹124.93/kg.
The orthodox market barely remained steady and tended to ease. The quantity on offer was 12,500 kg. Exporters continued to be the main stakeholders for the orthodox dust sold.
In the Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹122-171, mediums quoted ₹96-134 and plain grades stood at ₹92-103.
In the leaf category, the market for good Nilgiri brokens, whole leaf and Fannings in orthodox grades barely remained steady. The quantity on offer was 2,11,685 kg. There was some upcountry interest in whole leaf, while exporters lent only fair support.
In the CTC leaf category, the market for good liquoring brokens was firm to dearer and the quantity on offer was lower at 38,500 kg.
Monica SFD quoted the best prices of ₹171 in the dust grades, while Chamraj FP rose to the top in the leaf grades, quoting ₹255.
