Despite low arrivals, active participation of regional blenders lifted prices of good liquoring teas at Kochi auctions.
The market for popular marks and good liquoring teas in CTC dust was dearer by Rs 2 to Rs 3 and sometimes more. Others were irregular and sometimes lower especially the browner teas. The quantity of offer in CTC grades was 9,73,500 kg, which was low compared to last week.
According to auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis, Kerala Loose Tea Traders and upcountry buyers lent fair support and improved enquiry noticed from exporters.
There was good arrival in orthodox dust at 22,500 kg. But the market barely remained steady and tended to ease. It also witnessed lot of withdrawals. Exporters were the main stakeholders of the quantity sold.
In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched Rs111-156, mediums quoted Rs 79-129 and plain grades stood at Rs 67-81.
In leaf category, the market for select best Nilgiri brokens in orthodox grades tended to ease, while whole leaf remained steady to firm and sometimes dearer. The quantity on offer was 2,13,000 kg.
In CTC leaf, the market for good liquoring brokens and Fannings was firm to dearer. The quantity on offer was 22,500 kg.
Monica SFD quoted the best prices of Rs157 in dust varieties while Chamraj Green Tea FOP-Sup came to the top in leaf grades quoting Rs363.
