September was a better month for tea production in the country but the cumulative output in the nine months was still short of the level reached in the same period of 2017 thereby continuing with the contention that India is heading for a lower production of black tea this calendar. “As per the data now released by the Tea Board, India produced 160.65 million kg (mkg) in September compared to 152.21 mkg in September 2017, marking a gain of 8.44 mkg or 5.54 per cent”, Rajesh Gupta, compiler of annual Global Tea Digest, told Business Line.
