The arrival of turmeric has been decreased. “Based on the declaration of Parliament election dates and also the Election Code of Conduct Rules have been in force, many turmeric farmers has reduced their bringing of turmeric for sale. Similarly the traders also purchased very limited stock of turmeric for their requirement alone, the arrival of has gone down to 4,000 on Tuesday”, said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
He said at present only the Mysore and Dharmapuri turmeric are arriving for sale and we are expecting the arrival of Erode Turmeric by the first week of April. Similarly the traders also getting very limited upcountry demand for turmeric. Many traders said they are not able to take money to the turmeric markets due to election code of conduct rules, so buying limited stock.
Regarding the price , finger turmeric was increased by ₹200 a quintal in all the markets and the root variety was increased by ₹150 at the Regulated Marketing Committee and Erode Cooperative Marketing Society. But at the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard it was decreased by ₹100 a quintal when compared to previous day sale price. On average 65 per cent of the arrived turmeric were sold.
