The arrival of turmeric to the Erode markets has been decreased. “Arrivals stood at 1,600 bags. Only medium variety turmeric arrived for sale. The traders purchased 60 per cent stock of the total arrivals for their local supply. Only in the first week of November the traders may get fresh upcountry demand when the price may increase,” said RKV Ravishankar, a trader. He said that this year the arrival of turmeric is low due todrought. About ten lakh bags (each bag contains 60 kg turmeric) were brought for sale. Regarding the price of finger variety turmeric it decreased in Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard and Regulated Marketing Society by ₹120 to ₹400 a quintal respectively due to poor quality turmeric. But in Erode Cooperative Marketing Society finger turmeric improved by ₹100 a quintal. The root variety increased in all the markets by ₹100 a quintal.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, finger turmeric sold at₹5,755 to 8,129 a quintal. The root variety sold at ₹5,455 to 7,339 a quintal. Of the arrival of 468 bags 246 bags were sold. At the Regulated Marketing Society, finger turmeric sold at ₹6,514 to 7,650 a quintal. The root varietysold at ₹6,489 to 7,389 a quintal. Of the 205 bags kept for sale, 120 bags were sold. At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, finger turmeric sold at ₹6,856 to 8,519 a quintal. The root variety sold at ₹6,399 to 7,689 a quintal. All the 283 bags kept for sale were sold.
