Spot prices of turmeric increased at Erode markets despite higher arrivals. Many traders purchased at a higher price owing to quality arrivals, said RKV Ravishankar, a trader. He said 4,000 bags arrived for sale, of which about 15 per cent are good quality turmeric.
The best quality finger turmeric fetched ₹8,200-8,800 a quintal, while the medium finger variety fetched ₹7,700-7,900. Similarly, the fine variety root turmeric went for ₹8,200. At the Regulated Marketing Committee, finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,089-8,536 , root variety at ₹6,889-7,920. Of the 659 bags kept for sale, 640 were sold.
