Spot turmeric prices in Erode markets decreased by ₹200 a quintal and only fifty per cent of the produce offered on sale was sold.

“Despite some upcountry demand, traders bought only limited stock of turmeric. Some 6,500 bags of medium quality turmeric arrived for sale,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

He said only the traders are buying the turmeric in Erode, so far no stockist has procured the turmeric for the past three months. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,699-8,569 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,234-7,637.

Salem turmeric: The finger variety fetched ₹7,179-9,609 and the root variety ₹6,850-8,011. Of the 1,201 bags that arrived, 576 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric traded at ₹7,349-8,499; the root variety ₹6,969-7,812. Of the 1,351 bags offered, 999 were traded.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,361-8,506 and the root variety ₹7,039-7,834. Of the 1,106 bags on sale, 966 found takers.
