Spot prices of turmeric decreased at the markets in Erode even as the arrivals decreased.
RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, said,
totally 1,481 bags arrived and the buyers purchased 55 per cent to meet local demand. Prices of the yellow spice are ruling at ₹6,400 a quintal as against ₹6,700 on April 22. Such decrease is due to the heavy arrival at the markets in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh which are also cheaper than Erode turmeric.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,299-6,560 a quintal, root variety was sold at ₹4,869-5,888. Of the arrival of 606 bags, 222 were sold.
At the Regulated Marketing Committee, finger turmeric went for ₹5,009-6,122 a quintal; root variety for ₹4,769-5,629. 394 bags of turmeric were placed for sale, of which 214 were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,283-6,333, root variety went for ₹4,789-5,845. Of the arrival of 481 bags, 457 were sold.
