Spot turmeric prices decreased for want of demand. “Turmeric prices decreased by ₹200 a quintal at Erode markets. We expected for medium quantity of arrival, but the farmers brought 5,000 bags for sale. Only medium quality turmeric arrived for sale and the traders procured 60 per cent stock”, said RKV Ravishankar, a trader. Only few bags of good quality turmeric arrived and fetched above ₹9,000. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,550-9,089 a quintal; the root variety ₹6,222-8,028. Out of the 1,461 bags, 60 per cent stocks were sold.
