A volume of 16.13 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale 24 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association to be held on Thursday and Friday.

This is as much as 1.73 lakh kg more than the volume offered for the previous sale.

Of the 16.13 lakh kg offered, as much as 14.99 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.14 lakh kg orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 75,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 10.50 lakh kg, CTC.

Among the dusts, only 39,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 4.49 lakh kg, CTC. In all, 11.25 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 4.88 lakh kg, dust grades.

Homedale Tea Factory topped the entire auctions last week when its Super Red Dust grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, was bought by Jaykay Enterprises for ₹266 a kg. In the CTC Dust market, Vigneshwar Estate’s Pekoe Dust grade, auctioned by Paramount Tea Marketing Pvt Ltd., followed when Shriji Traders bought it for ₹200. In the CTC Leaf auction, two grades of Pinewood Estate topped at ₹220 and ₹219 each.

Quotations with the brokers indicated ₹75-82 a kg for plain Leaf grades and ₹152-200 for the best grades. For plain Dust grades, they ranged ₹70-76 and for the best grades, ₹140-200.
