About 13.12 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 16 of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association auction to be held on Thursday and Friday. It is 1.80 lakh kg more than last week’s offer.
Of this, 8.44 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 4.68 lakh kg to dust grades. As much as 12.21 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 91,000 kg, orthodox variety.
The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 54,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 7.90 lakh kg belongs to CTC. Among the dusts, only 37,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 4.31 lakh kg is CTC. In the CTC dust tea auction last week, three grades of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹216, ₹214 and ₹213 respectively.
