A volume of 14.01 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 2 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association scheduled for Thursday and Friday. This is some 48,000 kg more than the offer of last week. Of this, 9.07 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 4.94 lakh kg, dust grades. As much as 12.61 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.40 lakh kg, orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades.
In the leaf counter, only 85,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 8.22 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 55,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 4.39 lakh kg, CTC. Homedale Estate created a new price record last week when its Red Dust tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, was bought by Tea Services India Pvt Ltd., for ₹274 a kg. This was the highest price fetched by any CTC tea, leaf or dust, by any factory in this sale.
Besides, this was the highest price fetched by Homedale Factory in the CTC Dust category ever since it started manufacture 66 years ago. Homedale Estate’s Pekoe Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed it in Dust tea auction at ₹268.
In the CTC Leaf tea auction, Darmona Estate tea, auctioned by J Thomas and Co., topped at ₹270 a kg. Homedale Estate’s leaf tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers followed at ₹266.
