Spot rubber turned weak on Friday. Prices remained under pressure following a weak closing on the National Multi Commodity Exchange (NMCE). Sharp declines in the equities markets dampened sentiments further. Sheet rubber weakened to Rs 195 (196) a kg, according to traders. The grade dropped to Rs 195.50 (196) a kg both at Kottayam and Kochi, as reported by the Rubber Board.
RSS 4 slipped at its May series to Rs 192.70 (193.38), June to Rs 198.71 (199.58), July to Rs 202.90 (203.54) and August to Rs 202.51 (203.00) a kg on the NMCE.
In the international scene, natural rubber prices were mixed. The Agricultural Futures Exchange of Thailand (AFET) rebounded, while Shanghai futures extended their losses. RSS 3 (spot) improved to Rs 209 (207.65) a kg at Bangkok.
Spot rates were (Rs/kg) : RSS-4: 195 (196); RSS-5: 194 (194.50); ungraded: 191 (192); ISNR 20: 194.50 (194.50) and latex 60 per cent: 126 (124).
