1) The Fifth series of Sovereign Gold Bonds 2018-19 would be opened from January 14 to 18, this year. The issue price of the bond would be Rs 3,214 per gram. Investors who apply online and make a digital payment would be given a discount of Rs 50 a gram from the issue price.

2) The Supreme Court is to start hearing on Sajjan Kumar’s petition against the Delhi High Court’s verdict today. Sajjan Kumar was imprisoned for life by the Delhi High Court on December 17 in a case pertaining to the brutal killing of five members of a Sikh family in Raj Nagar of Delhi’s cantonment area on November 1, 1984.

 3) Travel and tourism industry representatives from 42 countries will attend ‘Destination East 2019’, a buyer-seller meet to be held on January 14 and 15 in Kolkata. An initiative to promote inbound tourism in West Bengal, the event is meant to help tour operators to expand their business by promoting new destinations to their customers.

4) The Australian  Open begins in Melbourne on Monday. Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic would both be gunning for a record seventh Australian Open crown , while Andy Murray would make his last appearance in Melbourne as the era of the 'Big Four' draws to a close.

5) Kerala Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will hand over the keys of a house constructed by the CPM to Abhimanyu's family on Monday. Abhimanyu, a second-year BSc student of Ernakulam Maharaja’s College was stabbed to death allegedly by members of the Campus Front. Later, the CPM leadership adopted the family of the slain SFI leader.
