The Jammu and Kashmir government today said that gold deposits have been found in Akhnoor and Boniyar border belts of Jammu and Baramulla districts of the state.

“An exploration and investigation was carried by the Department of Geology and Mining in 2011-12 in which Gold and Zinc deposits have been found in Akhnoor border belt in Jammu district and Boniyar in Baramulla district”, Minister for Industries and Commerce Mr Surjeet Singh Salathia told the Legislative Assembly today.

Mr Salathia, who was replying to the grants of his department in the house today, said besides this, iron ore deposits has been found in Bhaderwah belt of Doda district and Sopore belt of Barmalla district.

The minister further said that department has also carried Geo-Technical Studies of Bridge site at Bikhar (Basholi) District Kathua and Geo-Technical Studies of Mughal road from Shopian to Pirkigali.

The department has carried drilling of 369.20 m during 2011-12 in Jammu and 564.23 meters in Kashmir valley and has fixed a target of drilling of 1000 m for the year 2011-12 up to March this year, he said.
