Greenply Industries Ltd's board of directors on October 31 decided to increase the production capacity from 73.50 lakh square metre to 96.24 lakh sq.m a year of the plywood unit at GIDC Estate, Bamanbore, Surendranagar, Gujarat, and commercial production from the expansion is expected by September 30, 2012.
Maruti has denied that its decision to establish a new factory in Gujarat has anything to do with the recent industrial unrest in Manesar in Haryana. Maruti said its board had approved purchase of land in Gujarat for ‘future capacity requirements'. The logistics for reaching the finished cars to the domestic markets in West and South India, and close proximity to Mundra port for exports ‘played an important role in the decision'.
The company said that its investment plans for Haryana were intact, including installation of 2.5 lakh capacity assembly line in Manesar (Manesar-C), a world class R&D Centre and test course in Rohtak for which it has lined up direct investment of over Rs 3,400 crore. Apart from Maruti's investment, its vendors and joint venture partners would continue to make appropriate investment for expansion in the future.
