Investor sentiments have dampened with the forecast of a weak monsoon and the RBI’s hawkish outlook on the possibility of a further rate cut this year. As a result the Nifty and the Sensex lost in excess of 1.2 per cent on Wednesday.
The Nifty lost 1.23 per cent to close at 8,135, down 101 points, and the Sensex closed at 26,837, down 1.29 per cent or 351 points. FIIs sold net equities worth ₹728 crore while DIIs were net buyers to the extent of ₹413 crore. Retail investors on the BSE also bought net equities worth ₹39 crore.
Infrastructure scrips took a beating with Unitech and JP Associates being the biggest losers of the day, losing 35 and 21 per cent, respectively. Unitech closed the day at ₹8.70 to a share on the BSE while JP Associates ended Wednesday at ₹13.05 to a share.
