Stock Market Live Updates: * Sanjay Kumar, CEO & MD, Rassense Pvt Ltd on India’s Trade Data for April 2025*

“While the overall export trend draws a modest picture, the stellar increase in export of natural produce, marine products and meat, dairy and poultry products underline the resilience and dominance of the Indian agrarian economy. The widening trade deficit and uneven performance point towards a need for a robust supply chain backed by export incentives.

As the world absorbs jitters for Trump Tariff and the volatility of geopolitical tensions, India has a golden opportunity to this challenge into an opportunity by capitalizing on its high-performing sectors, foster bilateral trade agreements and most importantly, empower the domestic players with data-driven processes allowing swift clearances, which will not just boost export but also strengthen India in its goal towards a self-reliant economy.

A more robust implementation of PLI and NAP schemes can help drive down production costs further to enable Indian exports to be more competitive, even for manufactured goods.”

Gold technicals: Gold climbs $100 from its intraday low

Renisha Chainani, Head - Research at Augmont, writes

    · Gold prices bounced up about $100 (~Rs 1500) from their intraday lows as investors appeared to be shifting back to safe-haven assets due to a slowdown in the pace of discussions between Russia and Ukraine and less-than-expected US data.

    · As consumers reduced their spending on vehicles, sporting equipment, and other imported goods due to worries about rising prices brought on by tariffs, US retail sales barely increased in April.

    · Concurrently, the PPI prices unexpectedly dropped due to a 1.6% decline in wholesalers’ and retailers’ margins, suggesting that businesses may be mitigating some of the effects of higher tariffs.

    · Moreover, Trump claimed that no progress on Ukraine will happen unless he meets with Putin, while the Ukrainian president argued that Moscow’s low-ranking diplomats dispatched to Istanbul for peace talks indicate a lack of genuine determination.

    Technical Triggers

    · As Gold prices have broken the Double-top neckline support of $3200, more downside is expected up to $3000-50 (~Rs 87000 - 88000) in the short term.

    · Silver prices are expected to get momentum now, as the tariff war has de-escalated. We are likely to see prices touching $34(~Rs 99000) and $35(~Rs 102,0000) soon in the coming days.

Stock in focus: IndusInd Bank clarifies audit findings; ₹674 crore interest incorrectly recorded and ₹595 crore unsubstantiated in “other assets” accounts, measures to strengthen controls underway

IndusInd Bank has issued clarification that the bank had disclosed the Internal Audit Department (IAD) was conducting a review of the Bank’s MFI business to examine certain concerns which had been brought to the Bank’s attention. The IAD has since submitted its report on May 8, 2025. Based on the report, it is noted that a cumulative amount of Rs. 674 crores was incorrectly recorded as interest over three quarters of FY 24-25, which was fully reversed as on January 10, 2025. Also, pursuant to receipt of a whistle blower complaint, the IAD was asked by the Audit Committee of the Board to review transactions recorded in “other assets” and “other liabilities”. The IAD has submitted its report on May 8, 2025 that there were unsubstantiated balances aggregating to Rs. 595 crores in “other assets” accounts of the Bank. These were set off against corresponding balances appearing in “other liabilities” accounts in January 2025. The IAD has also examined the roles and actions of key employees in this context. The Board is taking necessary steps to strengthen internal controls, fix accountability of the persons responsible for these lapses and will take action as appropriate.

Downgrade to hold, TP cut to Rs 780

Audit report, released last week, highlighted that Rs6.74bn was incorrectly recorded as interest income in 9MFY25; this will be reversed in 4QFY25

Also, ‘other assets’ & ‘other liabilities’ on b/s were inflated by Rs6bn

Adjusting for Rs6.74bn additional interest income implies its core NIM was 17bps lower than its reported NIM

Cut FY25 PAT est. 22% & cut FY26-27 PAT est. 13%-17% due to NIM compression& lower growth

    Investec on Indusind Bank

    More accounting discrepancies

IndusInd Bank reported to exchanges that its internal audit department has found

fresh accounting discrepancies at the bank.

    A) The bank has identified Rs 6.8bn of ‘incorrectly recorded’ interest income over 9MFY25. This has been fully reversed by

the bank in Jan’25 (i.e. impact in 4Q).

    B) It has also identified ‘unsubstantiated balances’ of Rs 6bn in the ‘other assets’ line item at the bank. The bank has disclosed that this has been set off against corresponding balances in ‘other liabilities’ in Jan’25 itself.

These accounting discrepancies add to the issue relating to over-reporting of income from derivatives (Rs 19.6bn impact, 2.3% of BV on post-tax basis), following which the bank has seen significant senior leadership exits (including the CEO, Deputy CEO in Apr’25 and CFO in Jan’25).

We are cautious in this period of heightened uncertainty at the bank, which should also see structural impairment in core profitability and business growth.

Stock market live today: Indian investors gain ₹5 lakh crore as Nifty hits seven-month high of 25,000

On May 15, 2025, Indian investors saw their wealth surge by nearly ₹5 lakh crore as the NSE Nifty reclaimed the 25,000 level for the first time since October 17, 2024, marking a seven-month high. The BSE Sensex soared 1,200.18 points (1.48%) to close at 82,530.74, while the Nifty surged 395.20 points (1.60%) to 25,062.10. This rally added ₹4.72–5.22 lakh crore to investor wealth, with BSE’s total market capitalization reaching ₹439.94–440.2 lakh crore.

The broad-based rally was driven by aggressive buying in auto, IT, metal, and realty stocks, with top Nifty gainers including Hero MotoCorp, JSW Steel, HCL Tech, Tata Motors, and Trent. All sectoral indices ended in the green, with Nifty Auto, Realty, and Metals leading gains. Optimism stemmed from hopes of a US-India trade deal, easing inflation, and positive global cues, despite early volatility. Foreign portfolio investors were net buyers, and the India VIX dropped 1.93% to 16.89, signalling lower market volatility. Technical analysts suggest Nifty could target 25,200–25,400 if it holds above 24,800, with support at 24,450–24,500.
