US stocks fell on Tuesday as investors remained concerned over falling oil prices and weak results from Alcoa. Fall in oil prices hit energy stocks which in turn drag the Wall Street down.

Investors are worried that Japan's massive earthquake and a nuclear crisis could weaken recovery prospects in the world's third-largest economy.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 117.53 points or 0.95 per cent to 12,263.58. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 10.3 points or 0.78 per cent at 1,314.16. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 26.72 points or 0.96 per cent to 2,744.79.
