The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Ernakulam branch, organised an Investor Awareness Programme under the aegis of the Investor Education and Protection Fund of the Corporate Affairs Ministry .

Inaugurating the programme, Mr K.G. Joseph Jackson, Registrar of Companies, Kerala, pointed out that lack of knowledge will result in great financial loss to investors, and hence it is with this intention that the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has set up the investor awareness programme. It is very important to have a thorough financial literacy before making investments.

‘How to invest, where to invest or how much to invest is only a secondary factor,' he added.

Awareness

Awareness about investments will help investors get the opportunities and know the associated risks; take informed decisions; understand the intricacies of financial markets and participate actively in the economic growth of the country by converting savings into investments, he said.

Papers presented

Mr K.V. Thomas, Director, Inter-connected Stock Exchange of India, Mumbai, Dr V. K.Vijaykumar, Investment Strategist, Geojit BNP Paribas Ltd, and Mr P.S. Menon, Chairman, Cochin Stock Brokers Ltd, presented papers on ‘Introduction to Fundamental Analysis, India Growth Story – Prospects for the Capital Market and Investor Protection – Do's and Don'ts' respectively.

The Ernakulam Branch of ICAI, Chairman, Mr Saji Mathew, presided over the function. Mr M.O. Poulose, Treasurer, Ernakulam branch spoke. Ms Minu Mathew, Secretary, Ernakulam branch, proposed vote of thanks. More than 400 delegates attended the public programme.
