Asian stock markets were ruling in a mixed trend on Thursday, as investors were concerned over growing political tensions in West Asia. Strong corporate earnings and cautious optimism expressed by the Federal Reserve about the strength of the US economic recovery boosted the investors’ sentiment to some extent.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained 41.28 points or 0.38 per cent to 10,849.57. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 62.95 points or 0.27 per cent to 23,094.02. Singapore’s Straits Times was down 13.93 points or 0.45 per cent at 3,080.79. South Korea’s Kospi was down 14.87 points or 0.75 per cent at 1,974.24.
Australia’s S&P/Asx 200 was up 3.6 points or 0.07 per cent at 4,933.80. China’s Shanghai Composite fell 15.37 points or 0.53 per cent to 2,908.53. Taiwan’s Taiex shed 16.88 points or 0.19 per cent to 8,696.08.
