Asian shares were trading in a mixed range on Thursday. Chinese bank shares bounced higher on hopes of a near-term pause in policy tightening, while the euro steadied before a widely expected rate hike from the European Central Bank later in the day. Wall Street ended the session higher on Wednesday.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 was down 3.85 points or 0.04 per cent at 10,078.63. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose 148.59 points or 0.66 per cent to 22,666.14. Singapore’s Straits Times was up 15.41 points or 0.49 per cent at 3,130.12. South Korea’s Kospi gained 11.36 points or 0.52 per cent to 2,182.55.
Australia’s S&P/Asx 200 was up 4.2 points or 0.09 per cent at 4,609.20. China’s Shanghai Composite climbed 10.04 points or 0.36 per cent to 2,820.52. Taiwan’s Taiex lost 44.99 points or 0.51 per cent to 8,779.45.
