Asian shares were trading in a tight range as weak data and the escalating Greek debt crisis kept market players on the sidelines. Holidays in the United States and the UK also kept the volumes thin.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 was up 3.7 points or 0.04 per cent at 9,525.64. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng jumped 121 points or 0.52 per cent to 23,239.07. Singapore’s Straits Times was up 20.27 points or 0.65 per cent at 3,155.79. South Korea’s Kospi was down 2.1 points or 0.1 per cent at 2,098.14.
Australia’s S&P/Asx 200 was down 7.5 points or 0.16 per cent at 4,676.50. China’s Shanghai Composite was up 12.83 points or 0.47 per cent at 2,722.78. Taiwan’s Taiex gained 29.58 points or 0.34 per cent to 8,839.58.
