Bank Nifty was the biggest sectoral gainer on the NSE today as the bank stocks staged a smart pullback, though there were some marginal losers too.

PNB, which hit a low of Rs 785.10, recovered strongly to close at Rs 824.70, a gain of Rs 34.50 or 4.37 per cent.

SBI, which at one time was very close to its 52-week low of Rs 1,571.10 when it dipped to Rs 1,588.15, bounced back strongly to Rs 1,670 at the close, a gain of Rs 46.50.

Axis Bank was up by Rs 22.70 to Rs 877, ICICI Bank gained Rs 17.05 to close at Rs 719.40 and BoB ended the day at Rs 684, a gain of Rs 13.45.

IDBI Bank, which came very close to breaking its earlier 52-week low of Rs 80.60 when it touched Rs 81.10, however managed to pull back to Rs 84.30 at the close, a gain of Rs 2.15.

Canara Bank, however, slumped to its 52-week low of Rs 355.30 but was able to recover at the close to Rs 365, a loss of Rs 8.30. The other Bank Nifty loser was Kotak Mahindra Bank, which closed at Rs 460.55, a loss of Rs 4.20.

The Bank Nifty surged to 8,384.65 at the close, a gain of 195.50 points or 2.39 per cent.
