US stocks ended the session near flat on Wednesday as investors remained cautious due to unrest in the Middle East and North Africa, but materials shares gained. The Federal Reserve's rejection of a dividend plan by Bank of America weighed on the bank stocks.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 23.84 points or 0.2 per cent to 12,042.47. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 1.14 points or 0.09 per cent at 1,292.63. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 1.37 points, or 0.05 per cent at 2,685.24.
