The Sensex and Nifty ended higher for a fourth straight session on Tuesday, their longest winning streak since late January, buoyed by financials and metals.

Domestic sentiment was buoyed as tensions eased between the world's two biggest economies after Chinese President Xi Jinping promised to lower the import tariffs on products, including cars, easing concerns over an escalating US-China trade row.

The BSE index ended higher by 91.71 points or 0.27 per cent at 33,880.25, while the broader NSE index closed up 22.9 points or 0.22 per cent at 10,402.25.

The Sensex and Nifty were trading higher for a fourth straight session on Tuesday, tracking gains in Asian peers as conciliatory-sounding comments from Chinese President Xi Jinping helped soothe investor concerns about an escalating US-China trade spat.

The BSE index was up 115.66 points or 0.34 per cent at 33,904.20 and the NSE index up 28.2 points or 0.27 per cent at 10,407.55.

Barring auto, all other BSE sectoral indices were trading in the green. Among them, metal index gained the most followed by capital goods, banking and realty.

Earnings season

Investors are optimistic regarding faster resolutions at the National Company Law Tribunal and that they will see “some dissection” in the market following corporate results, said Saurabh Jain, Assistant Vice-President of Research at SMC Global Securities.

Investors have now turned their focus to domestic cues such as March retail inflation data due later this week and corporate results.

Infosys Ltd, the country's third-largest software services exporter, will kick-start the January-March results season on Friday.

Investors continued to buy into metal stocks, with the Nifty metal index up for a sixth straight session.
