Sesa Sterlite was broadly firm in the morning session on Tuesday. It led the pack on the NSE as well, trading at Rs 205 at 10.55 am. This represented a gain of 3.43 per cent on its overnight close at Rs 198.20.
ONGC also held a firm undertone to trade at Rs 360 as against Rs 349.85 at close yesterday. This represented a gain of 2.90 per cent.
Cairn India powered up to hold gains of 2.74 per cent at Rs 242.15 as against Rs 235.70 at close on Monday.
Reliance Industries gained 2.11 per cent at Rs 927.20. The share had closed the previous session at Rs 908.05.
Grasim Industries edged up 1.91 per cent at Rs 3,881 as against Rs 3,808.30 at close yesterday.
With the RBI keeping the repo rate unchanged at 7.75 per cent both the Sensex and the Nifty slipped into the red. The former was trading at 29,118.71, while the Nifty was trading at 8,793.90.
