Lower than expected inflation numbers propped up benchmark indices marginally on Tuesday.
The Nifty closed at 5,380, up 32 points (0.61 per cent).The Sensex closed at 17,728, up 95 points (0.54 per cent).
“The news that the government could resume privatization programme by selling stakes in BHEL and SAIL has boosted the overall sentiment. The exercise could go under way in the next month itself,” said Milan Bavishi, Head- Research, Inventure Growth and Securities.
Power Healthcare and Realty indices closed in the red on the BSE. On the NSE, the CNX Pharma and the CNX Realty closed in the red. All others closed marginally in the green.
Volatility was down 2 per cent and the India Vix closed at 15.64.
Tata Motors, Ranbaxy, IDFC, Tata Steel and Axis Bank were the top five Nifty gainers while Sun Pharma, HDFC, Hindalco, Sterlite and BPCL were the top losers.
