The markets closed on a flat note. The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty ended the day down 17.55 points and 10.35 points.
European markets fell before the US jobs data were announced.
Investors were also awaiting the German Industrial output data. Asian stocks were trading on mixed cues. European stocks were down by about 0.2 per cent and American markets were down by about 0.30 per cent.
“Markets ended the week on a quiet note and for the week also, the benchmarks were almost flat, with minor gains. Rate sensitive sectors such as banking and auto performed well but IT and FMCG ended among the losers. With the large caps largely rangebound, focus shifted to the mid and small caps, which outperformed with gains of 4 per cent to 5 per cent on these indices during the week,” said Mr Dipen Shah, Head of Fundamental Research, Kotak Securities.
The top gainers on the BSE were ICICI Bank, HDFC and Mahindra and Mahindra, while the top losers were Jindal Steel, Sterlite Industries and Tata Power.
