Benchmark indices were trading in the green during the afternoon on Tuesday amid volatility.
The market opened on a flat note amid mixed global cues and remained volatile during the first half, recording fresh highs. Indices were dragged by profit-booking in IT, bank stocks and metals while heavyweights such as HDFC sustained gains.
At 1 pm, the BSE Sensex was ruling at 58,484.24, up 187.33 points or 0.32 per cent. It recorded a fresh high of 58,553.07 and a low of 58,005.07.

Bharti Airtel, HDFC, ITC, IndusInd Bank and Bajaj Finserv were the top gainers on the Nifty 50 while Wipro, SBI Life, Infosys, Axis Bank and Hindalco were the top laggards.
Gaurav Garg, Head of Research CapitalVia Global Research Ltd said, "Indian benchmark had a cautious start today around the level of 17400. All sectoral indices opened in the green, except for Nifty Bank, which is mostly private lenders."
"Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) on Monday sold shares worth ₹589.36 crore in cash and bought ₹547.31 crore in index futures. Which could also be the triggering factor to domestic markets," added Garg.
