The press meet organised to announce Tamilnad Mercantile Bank's annual results at DSF Grand Plaza in Tuticorin seemed more of a celebration of sorts.
Usually, result conferences are addressed by the Chief Executive Officer or the Managing Director who is assisted by an Executive Director or two and the odd General Manager on the podium. The other officials hover discreetly in the background, ready to come up with an answer at short notice in case the Chief Executive needs assistance.
Rarely do you see several board members on the podium, as was the case with TMB.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive, Mr A.K. Jagannathan, was flanked by at least eight board members and directors on the podium while he highlighted the bank's performance.
During the question and answer session that followed the presentation, there were a number of queries regarding share ownership and transfer, given the troubled history of TMB's share ownership. Mr Jagannathan handled these queries with ease, knowing fully well that his reply was being closely monitored by the members of the board present there.
