The rupee strengthened by 2 paise to Rs 44.41 per dollar in the early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today, supported by a higher opening in the stock market and the dollar’s weakness against other major currencies overseas.
The domestic unit had closed flat at Rs 44.43/44 per dollar in the previous session.
Forex dealers said the dollar’s weakness against major currencies overseas and a higher opening in the stock market mainly kept the rupee sentiment firm.
