State Bank of Hyderabad is increasing its thrust on the financial inclusion project, extending the scheme in 1,102 villages spread across 36 districts in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat. This will cover a total of 42.79 lakh rural population.
The bank is implementing the project in two phases. In the first phase, about 300 villages will being covered by March 2011 and the remaining before March 2012. It has already commenced enrolment and opening of savings bank accounts in 261 villages in AP and Karnataka, the bank said in a statement today. The bank, as part of the project, distributed biometric cards to the beneficiaries in some villages to mark the Republic Day celebrations on Wednesday.
