The Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) has entered into an MoU with the Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS) to undertake collaborative projects.

The agreement was signed by the ASCI’s Director General, SK Rao and Director-ICS, Alka Acharya. Ravi Bhoothalingam, a member on the governing bodies of ASCI and the ICS, facilitated this collaboration between the two institutions.

Post discussions between the two Institutes, it was agreed to focus on the broad theme of Public Policy & Business Management, Planning & Development and launch long-term collaborative programmes. ICS would help ASCI in designing and delivering the China-specific content in the programmes and also facilitate international immersion.

While ASCI could apply for and issue an AICTE-approved PG Diploma, the collaborating institution could similarly give a PG Diploma or a Degree. We could focus these programmes on working professionals in the government and corporate sector - was the general consensus - given the heightened interest and keenness in the country to understand the governance and business models/processes of China.

Joint proposals could be submitted to funding agencies, highlighting the value-add that the two institutions would bring together and the learning that participants would gain during (international) exposure in China, a release said.

ICS started functioning in 1969. In 2010, it became a registered society (like ASCI) and is supported by substantial grants from the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
