The increase in non-performing assets (NPAs) in the banking system is normally because of big borrowers, according to a senior banker. Answering queries of shareholders at the 92nd AGM of Karnataka Bank in Mangaluru on Thursday, Ananthakrishna, non-executive chairman of the bank, said that normally it is the big borrowers who do not repay, and not the small ones. He said that banks are sandwiched between regulations and a system that favours big borrowers.
