Birla Institute of Management Technology is hosting the BIMTECH Insurance Colloquium 2017 on Friday, October 6, around the theme of expanding the IT frontier in insurance. The seminar will be held at the Mumbai Cricket Association's Recreation Centre.

While the keynote address will be delivered by BD Banerjee, former Chairman, The Oriental Insurance Co Ltd, and former Insurance Ombudsman, Mumbai, the event will see a host of senior executives from the insurance industry participating in the debate.

Among the business chiefs expected to attend are Girish Kulkarni, MD & CEO, Star Union Dai-ichi Life Insurance Co; Praveen Gupta, MD & CEO, Raheja QBE General Insurance Co; Kalpana Sampat, MD & CEO, Swiss Re Services India; Manoj Jain, MD, Shriram Life Insurance; Srinivas Rao, MD, Munich Re India Services; Tapas Nandi, CEO & Principal Officer, JB Boda Insurance Brokers.

There will be two panel discussions. The first session on issues, resources and talents: expanding the IT frontier in insurance will be moderated by Prof KK Krishnan of BIMTECH and the second panel on ‘'closing the protection gap for insurance’ will be moderated by Prof Abhijit Chattoraj.

The first panel will debate on the issue that info-tech is no longer just an enabler but is a strategic component in itself for insurance. The second session will debate on the issue of the insurance protection gap in India widening with every passing year, posing both challenges and opportunities for insurance companies to further unlock their potential, increase their societal relevance and improve their value propositions.
