‘Thus We Can’ reads the slogan of Canara Bank Officers’ Association (CBOA). It is not about any strike, but about mobilising business for the bank.

GV Manimaran, General Secretary of CBOA, who was in Mangaluru on Friday to launch ‘Thus We Can’ campaign, told BusinessLine that CBOA members want to improve the performance of the bank by increasing the volume of business by putting extra effort.

CBOA has around 22,000 officers as its members. The objective under the campaign is that every member of the association brings 10 new customers. Each such new customer will bring a business of around ₹1 lakh in savings bank account.

With this, the association wants to achieve a new CASA (current account savings account) business of around ₹2,000 crore.

Another objective is to bring 10 housing loans of around ₹10 lakh from each member of CBOA, leading to a business of ₹20,000 crore.

The association will also target to bring down NPAs. The members will concentrate on around ₹4,840 crore in 75,000 accounts.

Approximately, this works out to 3.5 accounts per member of the association.

Mentioning a recent example in Pune, Manimaran said a concerted effort by the CBOA members has led to the upgradation of ₹2.8 crore of NPAs, and a cash recovery of 28 lakh.

‘Thus We Can’ campaign was launched simultaneously in 49 circles of the bank.

He said the groundwork for the campaign was on for the last six months.

The campaign will be a trendsetter in banking industry, he said.

On the name of the campaign, Manimaran said his letters to the members were focusing on the theme ‘thus we can’.

Incidentally, most of the objectives under the campaign are also connected with number 10.

That is 10 new customers, average ₹10 lakh housing loan to new customers, etc.
