Ramnagar Branch of City Union Bank in Coimbatore recently celebrated its 40th anniversary. The event was one that took the staff by surprise. The employees, who were given to understand that the event would be a quiet get together, were in for a surprise when the bank’s Chief Executive N. Kamakodi shifted the venue to Taj Vivanta. One of the oldest customers of the branch cut the ‘birthday’ cake.

Apart from the 50-odd staff of the branch, the invitation was limited to just about 50-60 customers both young and old.

“Since it was not pre-planned, we called each of the guests over phone, first to inform them about the get-together at the branch that evening, and again to let them know about the change in the venue,” said Lakshminarayanan, Head of Ramnagar branch. Kamakodi conceded that the celebration at Taj was not a planned one. ‘Only after arriving in Coimbatore, I learnt that the day marked the 40{+t}{+h} anniversary of the branch. Incidentally, my father, the former Chairman and Chief Executive late V. Narayanan was born on this day in 1943,” he said.

“It’s a team effort. This branch has risen to its present level because of your patronage,” Kamakodi said, thanking customers for responding to the invitation at short notice.
