Kevan Watts, former President of DSP Merrill Lynch passed away on Saturday after a brief illness. He was 68 years. Watts worked at Merrill Lynch from 1981 to 2010 across its various offices - New York, London & Hong Kong.

Watts was responsible for Bank of America’s and Merrill Lynch’s businesses in India as President for about two years, following their merger. He held a number of senior positions including Co-head of Global Investment Banking, Chairman of Asia Pacific, Chairman of Europe, Middle East and Africa and Chairman of International. In these roles he advised many companies and banks in the UK, Europe, the US and Asia on a wide range of financing and M&A transactions (including the IPO of ICBC) as well as managing significant parts of Merrill Lynch’s international businesses.

Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, Watts spent seven years at H M Treasury which included two years as Private Secretary to the Permanent Secretary. He gained a first class degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and a postgraduate degree in Philosophy, both at University College, Oxford. Watts was also advisor to HSBC. He was based in London but travelled regularly to China and Asia generally, maintaining and developing HSBC’s corporate and banking relationships at a senior level drawing on 20 years of experience of business throughout Asia and 35 years of experience in Investment Banking.
