The Dharwad-headquartered Karnataka Vikas Grameen Bank (KVGB) will open 59 more branches by the end of the third quarter of 2015-16, according to its Chairman, Ashok Reddy.

Inaugurating the branch mangers’ meet in Mangaluru on Monday, Reddy said that the bank has 576 branches in nine districts of its jurisdiction. It will open another 59 branches and 75 new ATMs before the end of third quarter of this fiscal. Of this, 10 branches will be opened in Mangaluru region.

The bank, in association with Nabard (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development), will soon introduce mobile ATMs and simple banking services. The ATM will be operated on a van at specific timings of the day in pre-identified un-banked villages at specified locations.

One officer of the bank and a doctor will be present in the vehicle for providing financial awareness and also medical services, he said.

The main focus of the bank is to improve the living standard of the people in its area of operation. Towards this end, the bank has been extending timely credit not only to agriculture but also to business, industry, self employment, housing, education and SME sectors, he said.

KVGB has recently launched an initiative called ‘dial for account’ (1800-425-1666) to open savings bank accounts at the door steps of the customers. Now the bank is planning to introduce ‘dial for loan’ initiative, he said.
