LPG subsidy recipients who had Airtel Payments Bank accounts were not getting their share of subsidy for the past few weeks, according to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
A government statement said that a large number of LPG consumers had complained about non-credit of the LPG subsidy amounts into their earlier bank accounts during the past few weeks. “On verification, it is found that these complaints mainly pertain to those LPG consumers who are Airtel customers and have opened account in Airtel Payments Bank,” the statement added.
This is because, as per the subsidy transfer protocol, the LPG subsidy was transferred to the latest bank account of the beneficiary seeded with their Aadhaar, the statement added. It appears that the latest seeded accounts incidentally happened to be the Airtel Payments Bank accounts.
The government clarified that the LPG subsidy of Airtel customers has been credited to their newly opened Airtel Payment bank account seeded with Aadhaar cards.
LPG distributorshipsIn another statement, the Ministry said that oil marketing companies were in the process of appointing more than 6,000 new LPG distributorships, primarily in rural areas.
Under the drive, an online draw for a selection of 26 new distributorships was conducted in Punjab. These 26 applicants were selected out of 609 applicants.
The online draw will also be conducted for selection of new distributorship in the remaining States to strengthen the LPG supply chain.
