The rupee weakened by 4 paise to trade at Rs 44.35 against the US currency in the early trade today due to a fair demand for dollar.
Dealers said demand for the US currency from importers and dollar’s gains against other currencies overseas, mainly put pressure on the rupee.
Firm equity markets, however, capped the rupee’s losses, they added.
