The south is a key market for United Bank of India and it will focus on expansion in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, according to its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Pawan Bajaj.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 36th regional office here on Tuesday.
``The bank is committed to participating in the growth of these two states, as it is in all other states where it operates. This regional office will act as a pivotal point for existing and forthcoming branches here,’’ he said.
The region has been carved out of the Bengaluru regional office and the erstwhile link office at Hyderabad has been upgraded to a regional office.
The undivided Bengaluru region had 67 branches in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka, and 46 ATMs with a total business of Rs 5,381 crore.
The total business of the new region, however, is Rs 2,935 crore spread across 34 branches. The bank plans to open eight branches in the two states, Bajaj said.
