Kolkata-based microfinance company, Village Financial Services, has begun operations in Jharkhand.

The first branch was opened at Pakur district of Jharkhand and it will provide micro lending services to poor women residing in the district.

According to a release issued by the company, it plans to raise its customer base from 135,000 to 170,000 poor households by the end of fiscal year 2015-2016.

“Entering Jharkhand is a part of our proposed growth plan. We are in the process of infusing more funds to support the projected growth,” Kuldip Maity, MD and CEO, VFS, said.

Village Financial Services Pvt Ltd is a microfinance company registered as an NBFC under Reserve Bank of India. It had started microfinance operations in 2005-06.
