Hello and welcome to Quick Look.

I am Siddharth Mathew Cherian.

This week, we take a look at the impact of the Coronavirus outbreak across the globe.

The World Health Organisation has reported over 200,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus infections and more than 8000 death across 168 countries.

International organisations such as the International Labour organization have also said that the Coronavirus pandemic could result in the loss of 25 million jobs worldwide.

It is in this context that Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi spoke to the people on Thursday.

He announced a Janata curfew on March 22 to sensitize the citizens about the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ‘Janata Curfew’ will take place from 7 am to 9 pm on Sunday.

He also asked businesses and high net-worth individuals not to cut the salaries of their employees. The Prime Minister also added that nobody should venture out of home. This excludes people who are part of essential services such as health, government services, sanitation and media.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced the creation of the ‘Covid-19 Economic Response Task Force’ which will be led by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Currently, India has about 209 reported cases.

Tune in next week for more stories and information. Until then, wash your hands, socialize from a distance and play safe.
