This happens to be the second week of the 21 day nationwide lockdown announced by Prime Minister Modi. Here are some of the key developments.

Earlier this week,India indicated that export orders for Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), can be be released if companies had enough stock.

HCQ, an anti-malarial drug is being experimented in many countries for treating COVID-19.

Trump and Prime Minister Modi had spoke over the phone last week. During the call, Trump requested Modi to lift the hold on the American order of hydroxychloroquine, of which India is the major producer

On Tuesday, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe declared a state of emergency to fight new coronavirus infections in major population centres and unveiled a stimulus package worth 108 trillion yen ($990 billion).

This is equal to 20% of Japan’s economic output.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson spent a second night in intensive care and is reported to be in a stable condition on Wednesday.

Johnson had received oxygen support for COVID-19 complications, raising questions about how key decisions would be taken in his absence.

He was tested positive nearly two weeks ago, and was admitted to St Thomas’ hospital, London on Sunday evening.

Foreign minister Dominic Raab was deputised by Boris Johnson to carry out some of his responsibilities, including chairing the British government’s daily meeting on the coronavirus crisis
