In this week’s episode, we take a glimpse of the first week of the nation-wide lockdown. Remember Prime Minister Modi had called for a 21-day lockdown in a bid to combat the Covid-19 crisis.

At present, Over 200 countries and territories have been affected by the novel coronavirus. The coronavirus pandemic has killed more than 30,000 people in Europe alone. Italy and Spain account for three in every four deaths on the continent.

The WHO’s Director General also praised India’s 22.6 billion dollar economic stimulus plan.

The Indian Government had unveiled a package of one lakh seventy thousand crore rupees on March 26. Farmers, MGNREGA workers, senior citizens, women and low-wage earners in the organized sector will be the main beneficiaries of the package. The government announced a special insurance scheme for health workers fighting COVID-19. The scheme will provide an insurance cover of 50 lakh rupees and will benefit 22-lakh health workers.

Delhi’s Nizamuddin area also emerged as a hotspot for Covid-19 cluster infections. This situation was triggered by the death of an Indonesian citizen who had participated in the Tablighi Jamaat congregation and was traveling around Telangana.

The Government authorities said that that 2,000 foreigners from 70 countries had arrived in India to participate in Jamaat activities. These foreigners have been in India since January 1, 2020. Over 1,000 foreigners were stuck at Nizamuddin due to the lockdown.
