Citing the "national need" for oxygen, the Supreme Court allowed Vedanta to operate its closed oxygen plant in Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

This is significant as the nation is facing a crisis as the number of Covid-19 cases are rising rapidly and the demand for oxygen has shot up significantly. Vedanta has a production capacity of 1,000 tonnes, and this would help ease the supply of medical grade oxygen, and the oxygen can be dispatched to critical areas in the state on priority.
